Backpacking Trip! Day 2 | Fog at Lake Katherine, NM

August 26, 2023- Day 2: It was mostly cloudy, but we did have some sun in the morning. We wanted to explore LK but were concerned about the possibility of another rainfall. We chanced it and decided to explore it anyway; the lake was approx. 2 miles away. The trails that led to LK were steep (#254 & #251) but also beautiful. We also got to experience some fog along the way and it made the hike a little eerie but still very cool! The fog at the lake was awesome. To see the fog moving from completely covering the surrounding mountain range and slowly revealing it, was pretty astounding. We hung out for about an hour, ate a snack and began our way back. It started to rain but we didn't think anything of it... that is until the rain became more plentiful. By the time we made it back to camp we were completely drenched. We had not eaten lunch so we had to find a near by pine tree with enough branch covering to somewhat shelter us from the rain to fire up the stove and heat our water to eat our Mountain Meals. As soon as the water was hot enough we zipped back inside our tent, got into some dry clothing ate lunch. There wasn't much to do after that as the rain didn’t stop for the rest of the evening. We hoped for better weather the next day.
