Fall Asleep to the Underground Duke: Gaslit Tunnels & A Hidden Empire (6 Hours)

Bedtime sleep history of the Underground Duke and the secret tunnels of Welbeck Abbey—an uninterrupted 6-hour sleep history documentary. Deep beneath Sherwood Forest, William John Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, 5th Duke of Portland, engineered a subterranean kingdom calibrated to absolute silence. Possessing an immense fortune built on Nottinghamshire coal and London ground rents, the reclusive grandee built miles of cedar-paved carriage tunnels, a ballroom sixty feet beneath grazing sheep, miniature heated food railways, and sixty thousand folios in climate-controlled rock vaults. Governing via slips of purple ink pushed through double-slotted oak doors, he banished servants from his sight while shielding thousands of tenant families from Victorian poverty. Dim your lamps, unclench your jaw, and let your shoulders drop. There is nothing left to solve, audit, or carry until morning. ─────────── 🌙 THE NIGHTTIME ARCHIVES: Subscribe so our weekly chronicles are always waiting at your bedside: ➔ Subscribe:    / @oldmoneyafterdark   Stream the complete all-night collection in uninterrupted sequence: ➔ Master Sleep Playlist (Voice Only):    • Old Money After Dark | Sleep History Library   ─────────── TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 The Duke Who Vanished Beneath the Earth 16:43 The Dutch Fleet & 1st Earl of Portland 35:04 Adelaide Kemble & Architecture of Solitude 49:15 The Passing of the 4th Duke & The Estate 1:06:58 The Architectural Vision of Welbeck 1:18:40 The Navvy Armies & Brick Kilns of Carburton 1:31:45 The 1.25-Mile Worksop Carriage Tunnel 1:46:55 Subterranean Great Ballroom Under the Turf 2:03:54 Sunken Libraries & 50,000 Silent Folios 2:18:13 The Tan Gallop & Subterranean Stables 2:34:04 Heated Food Railways & Kitchen Vaults 2:47:10 The Iron Gardens: 22 Acres of Heated Walls 3:00:57 Double-Slotted Doors & Paper Governance 3:16:19 The Code of Invisible Service 3:33:01 The Perpetual Spit & Nocturnal Circuits 3:48:48 Stripping Welbeck's State Salons 4:05:32 The Shrouded Carriage & Harcourt House 4:22:37 Unseen Benefactor of Sherwood Forest 4:40:32 The Winter of 1879: An Unmarked Grave 4:55:48 The Young Heir & Opening the Vaults 5:13:57 The Druce Case & Highgate Exhumation 5:31:53 What Remains of the Subterranean Empire 5:48:40 Epilogue: The Grass Above the Lanterns ────────── 🕯️ ONE MORE STORY FOR THE DARK: Still drifting—or wide awake?
