Early Mobilization – A first step toward returning to normal life

Early Mobilization (EM) is an intervention to prevent extreme muscle weakness that results from prolonged bed rest. The idea behind EM is to reduce post-ICU symptoms and consequences by activating the body early, and therefore improve recovery and thus reduce ICU and hospital length of stay. From an economic point of view, EM can help also to reduce the resulting immense costs for healthcare systems and societies.
