Çatalhöyük had no streets, palaces or royal monuments—yet a substantial community lived within its tightly packed mudbrick houses.
How did everyday life work when roofs became roads, homes became places of memory, and no obvious royal centre controlled the settlement?
This documentary follows the archaeological evidence from Çatalhöyük, one of the most important Neolithic settlements in central Anatolia. We examine its roof-level movement, ladder entrances, domestic architecture, food storage, craft production and burials beneath house floors. We also explore what recent studies reveal about population, kinship and inequality. Rather than presenting Çatalhöyük as a mysterious lost city, this film asks a more careful question: how did a changing community coordinate life without streets, monumental administration or an identifiable palace? Archaeological photographs, maps, research figures and clearly identified visual reconstructions are used to separate surviving evidence from interpretation.
