Verse 1
I said, "I will my ways regard,
And keep my tongue from sin;
I'll set a watch before my door,
Lest I offend within."
While wicked men were in my sight,
I held my peace, in check;
But then my heart grew hot within,
My words my soul did wreck.
Chorus
Lord, make me know my end, I pray,
The measure of my days;
That I may learn how frail I am,
And walk in wisdom's ways.
My hope is in You, Lord, alone,
My Savior and my God;
Through fleeting years, my anchor sure,
Secure in Christ, the Rod.
Verse 2
Behold, You have made all my days
A mere handbreadth in length;
My age to You is as if naught,
My life a fading strength.
Each man, though firm, is but a breath,
A shadow passing by;
He heaps up wealth, but knows not who
Will find his treasure nigh.
Chorus
Lord, make me know my end, I pray,
The measure of my days;
That I may learn how frail I am,
And walk in wisdom's ways.
My hope is in You, Lord, alone,
My Savior and my God;
Through fleeting years, my anchor sure,
Secure in Christ, the Rod.
Verse 3
And now, O Lord, for what do I
So earnestly await?
My hope is fixed on Thee, my God;
Thou art my only state.
Deliver me from all my sins,
From scoffers set me free;
I am but silent, I am dumb,
For it is done by Thee.
Chorus
Lord, make me know my end, I pray,
The measure of my days;
That I may learn how frail I am,
And walk in wisdom's ways.
My hope is in You, Lord, alone,
My Savior and my God;
Through fleeting years, my anchor sure,
Secure in Christ, the Rod.
Verse 4
Remove Your stroke, O Lord, from me,
I am consumed by Thine;
When You rebuke a man for sin,
His beauty doth decline.
Hear Thou my prayer, give ear to cry,
My tears I pour to Thee;
I am a stranger here with You,
A sojourner, as all we be.
Final Chorus
Lord, make me know my end, I pray,
The measure of my days;
That I may learn how frail I am,
And walk in wisdom's ways.
My hope is in You, Lord, alone,
My Savior and my God;
Through fleeting years, my anchor sure,
Secure in Christ, the Rod.
Closing Doxology
O grant us grace, in Christ our Lord,
To number all our days;
That we may hearts of wisdom gain,
And give You endless praise.
