Deer Lake: The World Muhammad Ali Built to Control

In 1972, Muhammad Ali bought 6 acres of Pennsylvania mountainside and built Deer Lake, a training camp with a log gym, a mosque, sparring bunkhouses, and a personal cabin so plain it had no electricity. This video looks at why he built it, how it worked as a full performance ecosystem for roadwork, film study, and Foreman prep, and why Ali kept the gate open to fans, reporters, and celebrities like Andy Warhol even after he had finally gained real control over his own life. Then, in September 1984, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinsonism. He went straight back to Deer Lake. This video connects that return to the larger pattern of Ali's life, including a personal story about a Parkinson's diagnosis in my own family, and closes with the detail Ali asked about in one of his last phone calls: whether the boulders at Deer Lake were still standing.
