Father Ireneo Mayok Jangkou laid to rest in eternal peace at Holy Family Cathedral Rumbek Diocese

Reverence Father Ireneo had fallen sick in Rumbek. He was on emergency flown to Juba for medical attention. Unfortunately, due to lack of proper medical facilities at the Juba Teaching Hospital, which is the only main hospital in the country, Fr Ireneo succumbed to illness despite fighting it bravely. Rev. Fr. Ireneo passed away on 4th August, 2022 and buried at Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek Town. Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek Christian Carlassare who leads prayers and other Parish Priests received his remains Rumbek Airport-Rumbek, Lakes State. Fr. Ireneo who committedly long served the Catholic Church both in Sudan and South Sudan hails from Luacjang Dinka and he has been serving at the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek. He was born in Makuac Town. Fr. Ireneo serves the Church from early age in Sudan. He served Southerners (South Sudanese) in El Obeid, Diocese of El Obeid as Parish Priest for 26 years and became hope to Southerners there during the armed struggle days. After Sudan spplit, when South Sudan became an independent country, Fr. Ireneo Mayok Jangkou was then rotated to South Sudan. Before coming to Rumbek Diocese in 2010, he served as a Parish Priest in Romic, Luanyjang. Also as a Parish Priest at Marial-Lou Catholic Mission in Tonj North, among other places.
