I used to upgraded a Proxxon MF70 to a CNC and it was working perfectly well. The only problem is that the size of MF70 is rather small and the XYZ travels are all quite limited. Thus it could only make small parts. Also due to the Z travel limit, it is very difficult to apply some precision tools (edge finder, etc.). So I build a 3-Axis CNC of my own. The XYZ travel can now reach 300mm*200mm*200mm respectively, which is at least twice as much for every dimension. Furthermore, given that I've used ball screw slide, the precision and backlash is very much improved. To reduce the complexity, I've just used the same control box I previously made for MF70, only adjusted the motor perameters due to the lead difference for the 2 machines. The spindle I used is Proxxon UF/E, which has 250W power (vs. 100W for MF70), a brushless motor runs from 9000~30000RPM, and a ER11 collet. It was mounted with a European standard 43mm spindle neck clamp holder.
