🇩🇪 THE SICK WIFE | LEARN GERMAN WITH STORIES | German Story for Listening Practice
What happens when the person you trusted for years suddenly chooses someone else?
In this emotional German story, Anna shares the painful experience of a marriage that slowly falls apart—and the difficult journey of rebuilding her life afterward.
Anna is 35 years old and has been married to Alan for 16 years. They have two daughters: a 14-year-old girl and a two-year-old child. Their life is not luxurious, but Anna believes that it is peaceful and normal.
At least, that is what she thinks.
Everything changes when Anna discovers that her husband has another woman.
At first, she cannot believe it. She has spent years building a family with Alan. They have experienced good times and difficult times together, and she believed that they were a team.
When Anna confronts him, Alan becomes angry instead of answering honestly.
Anna feels that something is being hidden from her.
Unable to sleep and desperate to know the truth, she eventually discovers a private phone number that Alan calls almost every day. When she calls the number, a woman answers and tells Anna that she is Alan's girlfriend.
Anna is devastated.
But this is not the first time Alan has betrayed her. Years earlier, something similar had happened, and Anna had forgiven him because she believed it was a mistake.
This time, however, everything is different.
Anna is not working because she has taken time away from her job to care for their young child. They also have a loan on their home, and they depend on Alan's income.
Anna feels trapped.
She knows that leaving would be extremely difficult.
As Alan continues spending money on expensive gifts and restaurants for the other woman, Anna becomes increasingly worried about her family's financial situation. She stops sleeping properly, loses her appetite, and becomes exhausted from the stress.
Even her older daughter begins to suffer emotionally.
Then one evening, Alan tells Anna something that changes everything.
He tells her that he no longer loves her.
He says that he is leaving.
Anna watches as her husband packs his belongings and walks out of the home. Their daughters cry and beg him not to leave, but he goes.
For Anna, the silence afterward is overwhelming.
She feels broken and doesn't know what to do.
