HIKING THE HIGHEST POINT IN SOUTH DAKOTA, HARNEY PEAK AKA BLACK ELK PEAK HIKE IN THE BLACK HILLS

This is a highly recommended day hike. It is a little over 6 miles round trip. From the nameplate at the peak: "The Harney Peak fire lookout, dam, and pumphouse were built by the CC in 1939 and are listed in the National Register of Historical Places. Harney Peak elevation is 2207 meters (7242 ft.) The peak is the highest point East of the Rocky Mountains and West of the Pyrenees Mountains of Europe." #harneypeak #SouthDakota #blackhills
