If you're recording music on a TASCAM Portastudio, learning how to submix and ping-pong tracks is one of the most important skills you can develop. It’s how you work around the limitations of a 4-track cassette recorder and build bigger, more complex recordings without running out of tracks. In this video, I show you **3 different ways to submix and ping-pong tracks on a TASCAM Portastudio**, including a technique that isn't explained in the manual. *In this video:* • *Regular submix / ping-pong* — combining multiple recorded tracks onto a single empty track • *Submixing with live overdub* — bouncing tracks while simultaneously adding a new performance • *Submixing with FX from the LINE OUT* — using the Portastudio's master output to capture the full mixer/FX processing onto a new track I'll walk through the routing for each method and explain how to use the TASCAM's mixer, L/R buss, FX sends, LINE OUT, and tape tracks to get the most out of a 4-track cassette Portastudio. If you're using a TASCAM 244, 246, 414, 424, 488, or another cassette Portastudio**, these techniques can dramatically expand what you can do with four tracks. This is the beauty of recording to 4-track cassette: you're not just limited to four tracks — you're limited by how creatively you can use those four tracks. 0:00 What is Submixing? 1:20 Method 1 (Regular Submix) 3:17 Method 2 (Submix + Live Take) 4:46 Method 3 (Submix w FX) #TASCAM #Portastudio #4TrackRecording #CassetteRecording #PingPongRecording #Submixing #TapeRecording #HomeRecording
