🎓 Monera – Archaebacteria | Chapter 2 – Biological Classification | NEET & Class XI CBSE Board
📖 In this video (Video 10/37), Dr. Neela Bakore explains:
📌 Unique features of Archaebacteria (branched chain lipids, unique cell wall)
📌 Methanogens – produce methane, found in marshy areas/gut of ruminants
📌 Halophiles – survive in high salt environments
📌 Thermoacidophiles – survive in hot acidic springs
📌 NEET MCQ tips on extremophiles

Transcript with Timestamp
0:00 Archaebacteria — very old/ancient bacteria — believed to be the first living forms.
0:45 Survive in extreme conditions: very high temperatures (100°C+), highly acidic pH, high salinity.
2:28 Special cell membrane: made of branched lipids and hydrocarbons (not simple phospholipid bilayer) — reason for extreme condition survival.
2:58 Cell wall: surface proteins (S-proteins) outside membrane — some also have pseudomuramic acid — NOT peptidoglycan.
4:31 Not affected by lysozyme (which dissolves peptidoglycan cell walls of normal bacteria).
5:07 Reproduction by binary fission.
5:35 Methanogens: methane-generating — convert H₂ + CO₂ → methane — found in intestines of animals and marshy areas.
6:20 Thermoacidophiles: found at high temperature + high acid conditions — example: Thermus aquaticus — source of Taq polymerase used in PCR.
8:03 Halophiles: salt-loving — found in high salinity areas (e.g. Dead Sea) — survive extreme osmotic conditions due to special cell membrane.
