Gold prospectors are pouring into Sioux territory, tensions are rising, and one cavalry officer is about to discover that following orders may mean betraying his own conscience.
Sitting Bull (1954) is a historical Western set during a turbulent period in the American frontier. As white prospectors push into the Black Hills in search of gold, conflict grows between the Sioux and the U.S. Army. Major Bob Parrish believes the situation can be handled without bloodshed, but his efforts to keep the peace put him at odds with powerful military leaders and officials.
When Parrish witnesses the harsh treatment of Native Americans at a government agency, he refuses to simply follow orders. His actions lead to a court-martial threat and an extraordinary assignment: arranging a meeting with Sitting Bull. But with tensions escalating and Colonel George Armstrong Custer moving toward confrontation, can Parrish prevent disaster?
Directed by Sidney Salkow, this 1954 Western stars Dale Robertson as Major Bob Parrish, J. Carrol Naish as Sitting Bull, Mary Murphy as Kathy Howell, Iron Eyes Cody as Crazy Horse, and Douglas Kennedy as Custer. Filmed in color and widescreen CinemaScope, it offers a dramatized take on the events leading toward the Battle of Little Bighorn.
If you enjoy classic Westerns, historical frontier dramas, stories of military defiance, and films about the struggle over land and justice, Sitting Bull is a vintage Western worth discovering.
