Fertilizer application is divided into two types Basal application is the application of fertilizers at or before the time of sowing or transplanting. The fertilizer is mixed into the soil so that nutrients are available to the crop during its early growth stages. For pumpkin cultivation, basal application typically includes: Well-decomposed Farmyard Manure (FYM) or compost incorporated into the soil before sowing. The full recommended dose of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Half of the recommended nitrogen (N). Top dressing is the application of fertilizer after the crop has been sown or has started growing. It is usually applied around the base of the plant or along the rows to supply nutrients during important growth stages. In pumpkin cultivation: First top dressing: About 20–25 days after sowing, when the vines begin to spread. Second top dressing (if required): Just before flowering or early fruit formation.
