The Khanat Caravanserai, with over a century of history, is one of the largest inner-city caravanserais in Tehran, located in the old part of the city.
Architecture:
This caravanserai, covering an area of about 10,500 square meters, has 54 rooms arranged along the four sides of its rectangular courtyard, with 13 rooms on each side.
The architecture follows a two-iwan style, with one iwan located on the eastern side and the other on the western side.
The main entrance is situated on the eastern iwan, connected to Amin al-Sultan Bazaar.
Materials and Decorations:
The structure is built using materials such as bricks, stone, plaster, lime, and clay.
Its decorations include beautiful brickwork and geometric designs that give the building a unique charm.
The main entrance door is made of Russian wood, about 5 meters high, and adorned with 40 metal studs.
Around the door, inscriptions featuring sayings of Imam Ali (PBUH) about the ethics of trade are carved.
Current Use:
Today, the Khanat Caravanserai serves as a major wholesale center for nuts and dried fruits, with its rooms dedicated to selling these products.
Additionally, the basement of one of the rooms has been converted into a traditional teahouse.
National Registration:
This historical building was registered as a National Heritage Site of Iran on October 1, 2003, under number 10418.
Visiting the Khanat Caravanserai offers a great opportunity to explore the history, culture, and architecture of old Tehran.
