#TrueCrime #MarlonBrando #truecrimecommunity On May 16th, 1990, 26-year-old Dag Drollet was shot once in the den of Marlon Brando's home on Mulholland Drive. Police said that when help reached him, he was still holding the TV remote in one hand and a lighter in the other. The man who fired the gun was Brando's eldest son, Christian. The call to 911 came from Marlon Brando himself. 🔔 Subscribe to Old Money Murders for crimes inside famous families, the fortunes around them, and the people history forgot. Christian Brando said the gun went off in a struggle. Prosecutors charged him with murder. Within three months, a judge accepted the house where Dag died as collateral for Christian's bail. The one witness prosecutors said could prove intent, Brando's daughter Cheyenne, who was pregnant with Dag's son, left for Tahiti and never testified. In January 1991, Christian Brando pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. At a sentencing hearing that became a mini-trial, two forensic experts gave incompatible accounts of the shooting, and Marlon Brando told the court, "I think that perhaps I failed as a father." Christian was sentenced to ten years and released in January 1996. This is the story of a Hollywood killing that ended in a guilty plea but never in an agreed account of what happened, of what one of the most famous names in the world could do inside a courtroom, and of the young man from Tahiti whose name almost nobody remembers. #OldMoneyMurders #ChristianBrando #DagDrollet #CheyenneBrando #Hollywood #Tahiti #HollywoodHistory ⏱️ CHAPTERS 00:00 A Couch on Mulholland Drive [time] The Price of the Brando Name [time] Brando's Son: Courts and Guns [time] The Guest From Tahiti [time] The Night in Brando's Den [time] Brando's House Posted as Bail [time] The Witness Who Never Came Back [time] Marlon Brando on the Stand [time] Tahiti, Prison, and a Will [time] The Man on the Couch 📚 REFERENCES & FURTHER READING UPI archives: arrest, preliminary hearing, bail and sentencing coverage (1990–1991) Associated Press: case, release and obituary reporting (1990–2008) Los Angeles Times: contemporaneous coverage and 1991 interviews Time magazine: "Lost Hope" (1995) Crime Library: "Christian Brando: A Hollywood Family Tragedy" INA (French television archive): Cheyenne Brando's 1991 arrest in France Tahiti Nui Télévision: obituary of Jacques-Denis Drollet (2015) This video discusses suicide.
