In the autumn of 1908, a young woman walks to work behind a draper's counter in Birmingham, the same as she has walked a thousand mornings before. By the end of that same season, she will be standing in a house she has never seen, holding a letter that tells her all of it is hers.
This video follows the quiet world of an Edwardian working woman, from the long rhythm of shop days and shared lodging-house evenings, to the disorienting experience of inheriting a grand country estate she was never raised to understand.
It is a story about Edwardian England from the ground up, about the lives of shop girls and working women in the early 1900s, about class and inheritance and the particular strangeness of stepping from one world into another with no map to follow.
Calm narration for sleep, rest, or quiet evenings at the end of a long day.
