[On-point] N. Korea rejects S. Korea's plan to send medical aid

"또 다른 광대극" 김여정 '대북 의료지원'에 막말 South Korea recently secured a UN sanctions exemption to ship more than 6 million dollars worth of medical aid to a hospital in North Korea, but Pyongyang has rejected the aid, calling it a "political provocation." For more on the Korean Peninsula, we're joined today by Professor Bong Young-shik, Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University. 1. North Korea marked its anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party yesterday, and fired what the Joint Chiefs of Staff called an unidentified projectile this morning. What do you think is behind the launch? 2. Seoul, in May, secured a UN sanctions exemption to send medical equipment to Pyongyang, but inter-Korean relations have worsened in recent weeks following landmine blasts in the demilitarized zone. What's your take on the recent developments in inter-Korean ties? 3. The regime criticized Seoul's plans to provide medical equipment to Pyongyang. Is the space for conciliatory approaches to improve inter-Korean relations narrowing even further? 4. As ties between North Korea and China warm up, work seems to have restarted on the road bridge linking China's Dandong and North Korea's Sinuiju. Still, neither side has set an opening date. What's behind the decades of delay, and what would the bridge mean for cross-border trade once it opens? 5. Eyes are now on next month's APEC summit in China, and whether Trump will meet North Korea's Kim Jong-un around the time of the meeting. Seoul’s intelligence agency recently put the odds of talks at 50 percent. What's your take on this? Alright, Dr. Bong. Thank you so much for taking the time today. We appreciate it.
