The annual trip to Castle Combe at a rather entertaining Coronation Race Day. Can't say this one was particularly packed with grid sizes, nor can I say the rest of the circuit racing schedule of season ending rounds will be frankly. But the 5Club at least showed up with a grid full of Mazda MX5's and that made it worth the trip really. Castle Combe's homegrown championships have really suffered this year, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think next year needs a serious rethink, with a bit less of them appearing. Less rounds, and back to 3 championships would be a good start. The opening attempt at the GT and Saloons race made sure that we had even fewer cars when a huge crash wiped out the Boulton CRX, Will Di Claudio's Peugeot, Keith Butchers Lamborghini and a significant portion of the barrier through Folly in what has become a bit of a customary accident spot now. Thankfully everyone walked away Type R Trophy has somehow been down on numbers all year, but put on 2 of the best races of the day and I think balanced the acceptable contact to great racing ratio the best out of anyone there. Hot Hatch was a tough one to judge. Great racing when they weren't thumping each other. I would maybe be a bit more forgiving if it wasn't for the fact it was actively hampering the Classic Stock Hatch title decider behind them which saw Jason Wood trying to snatch the title from his son Jake! Jake would take the crown effectively after race 1, which he'll have likely been quite happy with as race 2 might as well not have happened! A rather baffling incident that somehow managed to involve Matt Stubington after a heroic repair job from a lap 1, turn 1 destruction of his Peugeot 205 in the first race attempt was comfortably one of the silliest things I have seen this season, and is sadly one of the reasons why combining grids together can attract serious scrutiny. Race 1 after all had been stopped half a lap in and the restart almost saw someone landing among the solar panels! Drive of the day had to go Will Cox for me in the Tiedeman Trophy. Managing to thrash several much more conventional Formula 3 cars to a second place finish in both races, in a comparatively primitive old Ralt RT3 that has lived a lot of its life with the Monoposto club. #motorsport #castlecombe #crash #750mc #hondacivic #mini7 #compilation #mini #autumn #hrdc #cscc #doningtonpark #formulaford #crash #ferrari #brscc #mazda #mx5 #supercup #funcup #mx5supercup #miata #mazdamx5 #mazdamx5miata #caterham #vw #fordfiestast #fordfiesta #ford #enduroka #fordka #fire #vwgolf #productiongti #fiestajuniors #sports #saloons #ddmc #racer #goodwoodrevival #crashes #750mc #mallorypark #blytonpark #brandshatch #silverstone #racing #autograss #thruxton #rally #rallying #fail #btcc #rallycross #f1 #hondacivic #race #racecar #enduranceracing
