Intercity 125 returns to Devon with the Summer Riviera!

With the retirement of the GWR ‘Castle Classes’ otherwise known as HSTs or Intercity 125s last year there has been no more class 43s in the southwest apart from the monthly NMT. Therefore naturally enthusiasts were out in numbers for the Intercity 125 groups English Riviera tour from Manchester to Paignton. The consist was formed of 43025, named ‘Exeter’ which did pass through Exeter on the day! And 43089, which is still mostly in its former East Midlands Railway livery, you can see the logo faded where the Intercity 125 now is. This loco is armed with the popular VP185 engine and you can tell the difference in the last shot to 43025 which has the more common and mass used MTU engine, which the castle classes for GWR had. In between the 2 locos were 7 intercity swallow MK1s, unfortunately not 8 and not a complete full intercity rake because of 43089. 43025 was leading on the outbound and 43089 on the return. Unfortunately at 06:27 some of the shot was missed however I thought it nice to be in the video anyway, so please excuse the poorer filming and quick cut! Additionally to the HSTs LSL/Saphos ran their English Riviera tour, which was meant to be with 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ from Taunton, however this hasn’t happened for a couple months due to the lack of rain causing a steam ban. This meant the tour had the power of 2 class 47s, at least it was meant to! 47805 was removed from the tour at westbury due to a break failure leading to the fire brigade being called! There’s a little extra in this video with last weeks English riviera tour being included, this had a 57 on the rear on the outbound instead of nothing, so you’ll be able to tell! Additionally due to the fire risk the DSR ran their 37s on the last 2 trips of the day. This was 37703 on Friday and 37275 on the weekend.
