What does "high potential" really mean in corporate America? They've told you that you have "leadership potential" for the third time. But you're still in the same role, same title, same salary. I'm Dr. Nicole Bryan, Chief Human Resources Officer with 20+ years sitting in talent calibration sessions. I sat in the room where "high potential" labels get decided—and I'm going to tell you what really happens. What "high potential" actually means: "High potential" means you've moved from invisible to recognized—but being recognized is not the same as being promoted. For Black women in corporate America, this label often becomes a holding pattern that keeps you engaged without advancing you. In this video, I reveal the 5 signs your company is stalling your promotion (not investing in you): 1. You have a mentor, not a sponsor — Do you have someone spending political capital on you in rooms you're not in? 2. Your "stretch work" is invisible — Can leaders two levels above your boss name what you're working on? 3. You're not in rooms above your level — Are you invited to strategic planning sessions or just executing tasks? 4. There's no concrete promotion plan — Real investment comes with specificity, not vague promises like "keep doing what you're doing." 5. It's cost them nothing — Has your company spent money, headcount, title, or political capital on you? Or have they only given you words? If 3+ signs apply, it's time to stop waiting and start investing in yourself. 🎁 FREE RESOURCE: Download the Get Promoted Blueprint — a step-by-step guide to position yourself for promotion, build a sponsor network, and create your own advancement plan. 👉 https://services.thechangedoc.com/get... ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 – What "high potential" really means 0:30 – Inside the talent calibration room 1:00 – The trap: recognized vs. promoted 2:45 – Sign #1: Mentor vs. sponsor 3:30 – Sign #2: Invisible stretch work 4:15 – Sign #3: Not in rooms above your level 4:45 – Sign #4: No concrete plan 5:30 – Sign #5: It's cost them nothing 6:30 – What to do next 7:15 – Closing 🔗 CONNECT: 🎙️ Podcast: Leading Her Introvert Way 💼 LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/thechangedoc #HighPotential #BlackWomenInLeadership #CorporateAmerica
