APNU’s October 2, 2026 press conference examines healthcare, police accountability and concerns raised during the party’s community engagements. Dr. Karen Cummings calls for an annual Guyana Human Development Scorecard, measurable breast cancer screening and treatment targets, and stronger health services across the country. She argues that Guyana’s oil-driven economic growth must translate into better health outcomes, supported by reliable data and greater attention to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Sherod Duncan presents APNU’s call for Deputy Commissioner of Police and SOCU head Karimbaksh to be placed on administrative leave while allegations made by a serving female police inspector are independently investigated. Duncan stresses the need to protect the complainant and witnesses, preserve evidence and safeguard the investigation, while acknowledging due process and the presumption of innocence. During questions from the media, Ganesh Mahipaul also calls for Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken to leave office, criticising his response to allegations involving senior ranks. The question-and-answer session also covers cancer treatment access, hospital staffing, the cost of living, housing, infrastructure and concerns affecting hinterland communities. PNCR General Secretary Sherwin Benjamin discusses engagement with WIN, the party’s political strength and concerns about accountability at the Mahdia council. Watch the full press conference for the speakers’ statements, policy proposals and responses to the media.
