Welcome back to Van Trips Where Next? 🚐🇫🇷 In this episode of our European campervan adventure, we leave Camping in Nature – De La Haute Vallée and head to the spectacular medieval city of Carcassonne, France. We stay at the convenient City Camping Car Park, just a 15-minute walk from the famous walled city. On a scorching 32°C afternoon, we follow the shaded riverside path and catch our first breathtaking view of the ancient citadel rising above the trees. Carcassonne completely exceeded our expectations. We spent a full day exploring its medieval streets, impressive ramparts, historic towers, charming shops and cafés. It's easy to see why this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most popular places to visit in southern France. One of the biggest surprises was that you can explore most of the medieval city completely free. Although there is a paid section, we found there was so much to see without buying a ticket that we never felt we were missing out. If you're planning a campervan holiday, motorhome tour or road trip through France, we highly recommend adding Carcassonne to your itinerary.
