Beneath the beautiful waters of Lake Lanier, Georgia, lies an entire world that most visitors never see. Abandoned roads, a drowned racetrack, forgotten bridges, submerged forests, and historic cemeteries tell the story of a valley that disappeared beneath the water. But one discovery in 1990 revealed just how much history Lake Lanier had kept hidden. In November 1990, a construction crew working near Dawsonville Highway uncovered a submerged 1954 Ford containing human remains. The discovery reopened the mystery of Susie Roberts and Delia Mae Parker Young, two women who disappeared after a night out in April 1958. Their story later became connected to the infamous legend of the Lady of the Lake. But the mystery goes much deeper than a ghost story. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and filled after Buford Dam's completion in 1956, Lake Lanier transformed a river valley into one of America's most popular recreational lakes. Beneath its surface, remnants of the old landscape remain, including roads, structures, and places associated with communities that existed before the reservoir. This documentary explores the history behind Lake Lanier's submerged landscape, the forced displacement of Black residents from Forsyth County in 1912, the relocation of cemeteries, the discovery of the Gainesville Speedway grandstands during the 2007 drought, and the historical maps that preserve details of the valley before it disappeared underwater. We also examine the facts behind Lake Lanier's reputation as a cursed lake. Why have so many people drowned here? What do rescue divers encounter beneath its murky waters? And how much of the valley's history remains undocumented or forgotten? Separate verified history from folklore as we investigate the stories, discoveries, and unanswered questions surrounding one of Georgia's most mysterious lakes. Sometimes, the most disturbing discoveries aren't supernatural. They're the pieces of history that were left behind. In this video, you'll discover: The submerged car discovered in 1990 The real story behind the Lady of the Lake legend The history of Oscarville and the 1912 racial expulsion Forgotten cemeteries beneath Lake Lanier The abandoned roads, bridges, and drowned racetrack The remarkable maps documenting the lost valley Why Lake Lanier has such a dangerous reputation The unanswered questions surrounding its underwater history CTA: If you enjoy documentaries about real mysteries, forgotten history, underwater discoveries, and places hiding extraordinary secrets, please LIKE this video, SUBSCRIBE to the channel, and turn on notifications for more fascinating investigations.
