Gateway of India to Elephanta caves and back.
Ferry roundtrip ticket ₹260
Toy train ₹9
Entry ticket 40+5 = ₹45
Caves are closed for visitors on Mondays
Last ferry from the Caves to Gateway leaves at 5.30pm or so l was told.
it takes roughly 1 hour each way on the ferry to reach the Gharapuri island.
From the jetty to the island you get a toy train ride or simply walk for 10 minutes.
To reach the caves themselves which situated atop the hill you would need to climb a series of steps, depending on your speed you should be up there in 15 20 minutes. for the elders there are palkhies available for rent to reach the top.
There are two entry tickets you need to purchase worth 5 and 40 rupees for Indian nationals.
There are 5 Caves carved inside mountain stones earliest dating back to 2nd century BC.
The idols are magnificent and Idol of Trimurti has been featured on stamps etc. for many years. There are guides available.
I spent around 2 hours on the the island including a small trek to the canyon point which was okayish.
Definitely worth a visit.
