Дорога в Сванетию Батуми - Местия на машине

Лучше моря может быть только одно - горы. И самая честная проверка этой теории - дорога из Аджарии в Сванетию, в Местию. От Батуми до Местии около 260-270 км, на машине это часов пять–шесть в пути с учётом серпантинов. Дорога идёт через Кобулети, дальше в Мингрелию, к Зугдиди, а от Зугдиди начинается настоящий подъём в горы: вдоль ущелья реки Ингури, водохранилища, и дальше серпантинами в Сванетию. Асфальт в целом есть почти везде, но участки в горах требуют внимания: узкие повороты, обрывы местами без ограждений, встречные фуры и коровы на дороге как отдельный вид транспорта. Сама Местия - городок совсем небольшой, меньше 3000 жителей, зажатый горами со всех сторон: с севера Цхаквзагари, с юга хребет Зурулди, с запада - Лайла, с востока - Бангуриани. Именно отсюда потом расходятся треки к высокогорным озёрам и водопадам, но это уже другая история. Дорога в Местию - это не просто способ добраться из точки А в точку Б. Это переход из одного климата и характера в другой: море остаётся позади, воздух становится суше и холоднее, разговоры тише, а горы вокруг всё выше. И когда после шести часов серпантинов машина наконец въезжает в долину, окружённую ледниками, начинаешь понимать, почему те, кто живет у моря, снова и снова едет сюда, в горы. There is only one thing better than the sea—mountains. And the truest test of this theory is the road from Adjara to Svaneti, to Mestia. It is about 260–270 km from Batumi to Mestia, which takes around five to six hours by car, taking the winding mountain roads into account. The route passes through Kobuleti, then into Samegrelo towards Zugdidi. From Zugdidi, the real ascent into the mountains begins: along the Enguri River gorge and reservoir, and further up the serpentines into Svaneti. For the most part, the road is paved, but the mountain sections require careful driving: narrow turns, drops without guardrails in places, oncoming trucks, and cows on the road behaving like a separate mode of transport. Mestia itself is a very small town of fewer than 3,000 residents, hemmed in by mountains on all sides: Tshakvzagari to the north, the Zuruldi Ridge to the south, Laila to the west, and Banguriani to the east. It is from here that hiking trails branch off to high-altitude lakes and waterfalls, but that’s another story. The road to Mestia isn’t just a way to get from point A to point B. It is a transition from one climate and character to another: the sea is left behind, the air becomes drier and cooler, conversations grow quieter, and the surrounding mountains tower higher and higher.
