Getting downed twice in a single Marathon run usually means your loot is gone and your squad is dragging your corpse toward the nearest exfil. This 14-minute Dire Marsh run refused to follow that script. QUICK FACTS Game: Marathon, Bungie's extraction shooter set on Tau Ceti IV (released March 5, 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S) Map: Dire Marsh, one continuous deployment from lobby to mid-match cutoff Runtime: 14:44. The footage ends with roughly 12 minutes still on the match clock. No extraction happens on camera. Squad: SHEAFFER117#8852 (level 52, rank III) running with STARRYMAR#7232 and TATANKA DUG#1082 (both level 55). Crew fill on, cross play enabled. The damage report: downed twice, revived twice, zero full deaths. One UESC elimination, three Runner assists, and a loadout that grew from 1.3K to 2.0K mid-run. Contracts on the board: RETURN ON INVESTMENT 3/5, CO-EVOLUTION 2/5, and ARCHAEOLOGY II tracking valuables and UESC elites across zones. THE RUN, START TO FINISH The deployment opens in the pre-game lobby with a lean 1.3K kit: a green rifle, a blue rifle, and the CO-EVOLUTION implant at stage 2 of 5. The contracts briefing lays out the real objectives for Dire Marsh: download a UESC Comms Security Code in Quarantine, take down a UESC Grenadier Commander in Maintenance, intercept classified comms at the AI Uplink or Bio-Research, extract a structural Bio-Chain from Chitin Samples, and synthesize a SIMbiont in Quarantine. First blood comes fast. At 2:49 in the Complex, a UESC patrol gets dropped for the run's first elimination, and the Shareware.log upload completes a minute later. The squad pushes through fogged industrial corridors into Bio-Research, and that is where the run nearly ends the first time. At 6:34 a PvP firefight erupts at a Bio-Research doorway. A dead enemy Runner hits the floor, the assist feed lights up, and STARRYMAR goes down in the same exchange. Ten seconds later the player is downed too, staring at a red vignette while the kill feed announces UESC reinforcements inbound and a new exfil coming online. This is the moment most Marathon runs die. Bungie themselves have admitted the game's loop can feel like death is the only step. This squad did not accept that. The revive comes through, and the re-kit at 7:38 tells the story of the whole run: Retaliator LMG, V22 Volt Thrower, backpack packed to 16/16, loadout value now sitting at 2.0K. Back on their feet, the squad loots a dead Runner's corpse for a Signal Jammer, rides the zipline across the industrial zone at 9:01, and rotates into East Marsh as the match clock keeps bleeding. The Algae Ponds are where it gets desperate. A HOSTILE TOKEN DETECTED banner drops at 13:20, the green LMG opens up from behind rock cover, and by 13:52 the player is downed a second time behind CRGO cargo crates with a bleed-out timer ticking. What follows is the best thirty seconds of the run: back on their feet at 14:16, hands-out revive animation on a downed teammate, two enemy Runner corpses on the walkway, assist after assist stacking in the feed. The squad walks out of the Algae Ponds intact, the camera pulls back over the water at 14:29, and the footage cuts at 14:44 with the match still live. No extraction. No tidy ending. Just a squad that refused to stay down. THE TAKEAWAY Two downs, two revives, zero deaths. The gap between a dead run and a 2.0K kit walking out of the Algae Ponds was fast revives and zero panic. In a game where Bungie admits death was the only step for too many players, the revive is the whole game.
