This experimental X-serial prototype was hand-built in the Smith & Wesson tool room and never entered commercial production. Featuring a short recoil operating system, 10-round detachable box magazine, inline recoil assembly, and military-style controls similar to the M16 platform, the C.A.W.S. was designed as a next-generation combat shotgun for military applications.
