The Photograph Inside the Guitar | A Roots Rock Song About Bringing an Old Memory Home

Some things can travel for years before finding their way home. “The Photograph Inside the Guitar” begins with an old sunburst guitar bought from a shop in Knoxville. Inside it, Jack discovers a faded photograph from the summer of 1973. A young couple leans against a car, her in a white dress, him in a railroad cap. He keeps the photograph with the guitar for years, carrying both through bars, county fairs and motel rooms. Then, after a show in Kentucky, an older man recognizes the instrument. And then the photograph. “That’s my wife.” An original Southern roots rock ballad about old objects, lost memories, love that outlives time and the unlikely journey that brings one photograph back to where it belongs. Acoustic guitar, warm overdriven electrics, melodic slide, Hammond, piano and organic drums gradually build from an intimate beginning into a classic 1970s-inspired Southern rock ballad, with a quiet spoken passage and an expressive final guitar solo.
