Broadcast live on Format 93.2 FM, London in 1992, this rare pirate radio recording captures DJ Zinc during the formative years of one of Drum & Bass's greatest careers. Packed with rolling breakbeats, uplifting pianos, Hardcore anthems, emerging Jungle influences, underground white labels and flawless vinyl mixing, this set perfectly captures the sound of London's pirate radio scene as Hardcore began evolving into Jungle.
Before becoming one of the world's most influential Drum & Bass producers, DJ Zinc built his reputation on London's pirate radio stations, where his technical ability and forward-thinking music selection quickly made him one of the underground's standout DJs. During the early 1990s he was already making waves through collaborations with DJ Swift and Bizzy B, helping shape the darker, breakbeat-driven sound that would soon become Jungle. His innovative productions would later become defining records of the genre, influencing generations of producers.
Broadcasting between 1992 and 1994 on 93.2 FM, Format FM became one of London's best-loved underground pirate stations. Operating from makeshift studios with rooftop transmitters, the station championed the freshest Hardcore, early Jungle and underground dance music while giving talented DJs like Zinc a platform to showcase exclusive vinyl and future classics long before mainstream radio paid attention.
This recording is an outstanding snapshot of London's pirate radio culture during one of the most exciting periods in UK rave history.
