When does a law school addendum help your application—and when does it raise more questions?
In Episode 16 of Winning Law School Admissions, Ben Parker and Autumn Lockett break down GPA addenda, LSAT addenda, and character and fitness disclosures. They discuss what makes an explanation useful: a brief account of what happened, facts that support it, and a clear explanation of what has changed.
The conversation covers academic improvement after a rough start, older undergraduate grades, and how to describe circumstances that affected your performance without oversharing. Ben and Autumn explain why they generally discourage optional LSAT addenda, why school-specific instructions matter, and how blaming other people can weaken your message. They also discuss disclosures involving college conduct and academic misconduct, keeping your explanation consistent with the rest of your application, and saving your personal statement for something beyond explaining a weakness.
You will learn how to assess whether an addendum adds useful context, identify evidence of improvement, approach required disclosures with care, and write with accountability and a plan for success.
