Some stories do not end suddenly. They begin ending long before either person is ready to admit it. At first, everything still looks ordinary: an autumn evening, music playing somewhere nearby, long roads, books, tea with lemon, dancing barefoot across an empty floor. Small things that seem almost meaningless while they are happening. Then years pass, and somehow those are the things you remember most clearly. “We Already Knew” is about two people who perhaps understood from the beginning that their story would not last forever. They noticed the signs, felt the distance growing, saw the line they could never quite cross — and still chose to stay inside the moment for as long as they could. Maybe that is what makes certain memories so powerful. We do not remember relationships as a sequence of important events. We remember a lost key. A stained note. A familiar song. The way someone ordered tea. An autumn street that suddenly belongs forever to one particular person. We often pretend not to know what we already understand. As long as nothing is said out loud, there is still a strange feeling that everything can remain unchanged. Until one sentence changes the entire story. And then you discover that endings are rarely clean. Something always remains. A place. A song. A habit. A version of yourself that only existed beside that person. Maybe we really did know all along. Maybe we simply did not want to know too soon.
