What’s New in Electronics meets Woong Jang, General Manager of the European business at Parmi, and Matthias Ullrich, who handles German sales, to hear how AI is changing SMT inspection. Parmi is showing AI technology for its inspection machines, which use a laser triangulation system to detect the PCB and recognise components. The package includes AI teaching, AI OCR for text recognition, AI auto debugging, and AI verification, a version still in development that helps operators judge false calls. Matthias explains why speed and accuracy are no longer the point and why return on investment is what purchasing managers want. He gives a striking example: programming a board with around 2,300 components typically takes two to three and a half hours by manual teaching, but with AI teaching it takes two and a half minutes. The long-term aim is inspection without an operator. Brought to you in partnership with Indium, EFX, BTU, EVS, Koh Young Technologies, Kolb and Rocka Solutions.
