Your pet’s urinalysis came back abnormal — but what do those results actually mean? In this video, I walk through a urinalysis the way a veterinarian thinks about it: not as a list of random abnormal values, but as a set of clues that need to be interpreted together. We’ll cover urine specific gravity (USG), protein, blood, white blood cells, urine sediment, crystals, and why one abnormal finding does not automatically equal a diagnosis. You’ll also learn why: • Dilute urine does not automatically mean kidney disease • Protein in the urine can have different causes • Blood and white blood cells need context • Crystals do not automatically mean bladder stones • Concentration, chemistry, and sediment are interpreted together • Follow-up tests depend on the pattern your veterinarian sees If you’ve ever looked at your dog or cat’s urine test and wondered what USG, protein, blood, WBCs, crystals, or sediment mean, this video is for you. I’m Dr. K, a practicing veterinarian, and Inside Pet Medicine helps pet owners understand lab results and chronic disease so you can better understand what your veterinarian is looking for.
