UNEME CULTURAL DAY & AWARDS GALA LIGHTS UP ABUJA IN GRAND STYLE The Uneme National Development Association (UNDA), comprising the Akpama, Akiosu, Anegbette, Ekpedo, Enekhua, Erhurun, Udochi, and Uzanu ethnic groups, hosted its vibrant Uneme Cultural Day, End-of-Year Party, and Awards Ceremony in Abuja, a colourful celebration that marked a proud close to the year for the Uneme community in the FCT. The event opened with the traditional kola nut ritual, a revered rite that set the tone for a day rich in culture, unity, and reflection. Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Pastor Emmanuel Ehihi, in his opening remarks, expressed deep appreciation to all members for their commitment and support in making the celebration a resounding success. He emphasized that the success of UNDA events depends on collective effort, noting that the awardees truly earned their honours through exemplary service and leadership. He encouraged others not to relent, assuring that “next year will not pass them by.” In another vein, the Chairman of UNDA Revd. Charles Adebayo welcome everyone to the occasion and also described the cultural day as a gathering of resilience, stating that despite a challenging year, the Uneme people have remained steadfast and united. He reminded the audience that the Uneme nation is renowned for courage, unity, and love, values that continue to shape their identity and progress. Recounting the rich history of the Uneme people, he highlighted their heritage as iron manufacturers, a symbol of strength and ingenuity. He reaffirmed that cultism is a taboo in Uneme tradition and cautioned members to avoid anything that threatens life and communal peace. He added that the awards presented were meant to inspire higher aspirations and deeper commitment to community development. The atmosphere came alive as the various Uneme ethnic nationalities took turns showcasing their traditional dances, music, and cultural displays, demonstrating the unity and diversity that bind the people together. A major highlight of the event was the presentation of Leadership Awards of Excellence to distinguished sons and daughters of Uneme land. Among the notable honourees were: Hon. Peter O. Akpatason (mni) Chief (Barr.) Mrs. Marie Olabisi Dr. Gbenga Daodu Comrade Shuaibu Yusuf Madam Loveth, Funmilayo Alabi, and Alhaji Useni Abu among others. The celebration ended on a high note, with renewed commitments to unity, love, peace, and collective progress.
