What happens when “Flight of the Bumblebee” turns into the flight of a very large bee? 🐝🎻 This performance at the Vienna Konzerthaus marked the very first appearance of Aleksey Igudesman’s now-famous bumblebee transformation—from virtuoso violinist into a gigantic buzzing bee! Based on Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s legendary “Flight of the Bumblebee,” the performance features high-speed violin playing, an impossibly tiny bow, a giant bee costume, and plenty of unexpected musical and theatrical antics. Performed live with Hyung-ki Joo and the League of X-traordinary Musicians, this was part of an Igudesman & Joo production combining classical music, virtuosity, humour, and visual theatre. Although Igudesman & Joo have now retired as a duo, their spirit of musical adventure continues through The Limitless Orchestra. The League of X-traordinary Musicians was an important precursor to The Limitless Orchestra, bringing together exceptional multi-talented performers from around the world.
