The Philippines continues to allow private mining companies to extract the country’s coal resources at the expense of peoples’ rights. In the mountainous village of Ned in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, the residents and Lumad communities are more determined to resist the encroachment of private coal mining companies on their lands. Even in the face of attacks, they never ceased fighting for their right to the land, as it also meant fighting for their lives and for future generations.
