Explore Annesley’s forgotten past with me as I visit Annesley Old Church, discover the story of Annesley Hall and continue through the village to Felley Priory.
We begin among the ruins and graves of Annesley Old Church, finding out why this historic church was eventually abandoned and discovering some of the stories connected with the Chaworth-Musters family, Annesley Hall and Lord Byron.
From there I continue through Annesley, where another part of the village’s past appears along the way — the old colliery headstocks. We then visit the newer All Saints Church before moving on to Felley Priory.
At Felley Priory I discover how its history connects back to the places we've already visited, explore the gardens and old fish pond, and of course find time for a cream tea before the weather begins to turn!
What started as a visit to an old ruined church became a journey through centuries of connected local history.
If you enjoy discovering history on your doorstep, old buildings, forgotten places and walks with a story, come along and explore with me.
Get out and explore!
