Over the past few years I’ve explored a lot of different creative paths, but when I asked myself what brings me the most joy and purpose, I kept coming back to music. Finding a song through words and voice feels like one of my most direct connections to the source of creation. Performing it live brings me fully into the present — with all the vulnerability that comes with being heard. So this is me finding my way back to music. I have a feeling we’re becoming hungry again for the intimacy of acoustic and folk music — for something human, imperfect and present that we can actually give our attention to. I’m excited to share this side of my practice with you again. Michael of the Eye is a new home for my music, but also a new identity for me to explore — one with no masks, no layers to peel back, and nothing to hide behind. Just voice and song. It’s a space dedicated to stripped-down acoustic performances, live recordings, sketches, works in progress and everything in between. The first piece I’m sharing is “Emotionful Abyss” — a song that is still taking shape. I wanted to share it in this state rather than wait for it to become something more finished. This project is about letting the songs exist in that space too — following them as they emerge, change and find their way into the world.
