This video shows an early style 1909 vertical Fairmont hit & miss farm engine made in Fairmont, Minnesota. Fairmont is usually known for making their later rail car 2-stroke engines which were patterned off these earlier farm engines. Horace Woolery designed this engine which has a unique valve in the transfer port that closes off fuel to the cylinder when the engine is coasting. When this valve is closed, the engines ignition is also disconnected. These were very lightweight & efficient engines for the time. Woolery later left Fairmont & formed the Woolery Machine/Engineering Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota that also sold lightweight & powerful 2-stroke rail car engines.
