As generative AI tools rapidly reshape the academic landscape, faculty are grappling with how to uphold academic integrity while also supporting authentic learning. Drawing on our Learning Circle’s collective reading and discussions of The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI, this session reframes integrity not as surveillance or punishment, but as intentional course design, transparent expectations, and trust centered pedagogy.
Presented collaboratively by faculty across disciplines, this session will highlight key insights from the book while also engaging thoughtfully with its limitations, tensions, and unanswered questions. We will discuss areas where the text may oversimplify institutional constraints, overlook disciplinary differences, or under address equity, workload, and policy realities. By pairing the book’s strengths with constructive critique, we aim to model the kind of reflective, dialogic approach that academic integrity itself demands.
This session features both practical strategies for teaching with integrity in an AI inflected environment and a more nuanced understanding of how the book’s framework may need adaptation within real world classroom, departmental, and institutional contexts.
