A flat Starlink dish on a cabin roof is tracking a satellite moving at about 27,000 km/h (17,000 mph), and nothing on it moves to follow it. This is how Starlink satellite internet really works: the phased-array dish that steers its beam with timing, the trip your data takes, and the laser links between satellites in orbit. We follow one connection from the roof up to orbit, across the laser mesh and back down to Earth, then into the money. Starlink now makes up about two-thirds of every working satellite, it is the only part of SpaceX that makes an operating profit, and SpaceX says cash from its core businesses helps fund Starship, the rocket that carries the next satellites.
