How To Use/Explain Consistent Hashing in a System Design Interview? Consistent Hashing is one of the most important scalability topics in Distributed Systems. This concept helps you understand true scalability in an architecture which involves write scaling via Sharding and Partitioning, especially when new databases are added or existing ones are removed. When the database is overwhelmed with writes, a single write instance may not be enough to handle that load. Think of, comments on LinkedIn on viral posts. To handle that amount of massive load seamlessly, the data needs to be split across multiple databases called shards. It sounds all easy, but the moment we think of adding or removing shards - things get wildly complicated. That's where consistent hashing come to the rescue. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ RELATED DEEP DIVES ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Deep Dive on Hashing:    • What is Hashing? Hashing Algorithm, Hash C...   What is Sharding:    • Database Sharding vs Partitioning - System...   Full System Design Series:    • System Design Interview Prep For Beginners...   ▬▬▬▬▬▬ TIMESTAMPS ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 Distribution of Data in Shards 02:24 Consistent Hashing Ring 05:14 Moving Data To/From A Shard 07:23 Values on Hash Ring 08:17 When to Use Consistent Hashing ▬▬▬▬▬▬ SOCIALS ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Instagram:   / monis.yousuf   LinkedIn:   / monis-yousuf   Youtube: @MonisYousuf My Website: https://monisyousuf.com #hashing #systemdesign #softwareengineer #softwareengineering #faang ▬▬▬▬▬▬ This video is a part of the complete System Design Interview Series aimed at cracking FAANG/MAANG/Product Based Company interviews.
