There may be practical challenges, fear, uncertainty, grief, legal or financial difficulties, the impact on children, and the emotional work of learning to trust yourself again. Even after life has changed, some of what happened can continue to echo for a long time. That is where the metaphor behind this song came from: escaping one place, only to discover there is still a forest to find your way through. But this isn't a song about remaining lost in that forest. It's about distance. About one step becoming another. About things gradually becoming lighter.
