Today marks the immersion of Lord Ganesha's idols in Surat. For the past ten days, devotees have worshipped the deity with great enthusiasm and joy; today, however, the residents of Surat are bidding a tearful farewell to Bappa. More than 90,000 idols are set to be immersed today. Members of the Gupteshwar Yuvak Mandal in Phulpada sought forgiveness from the deity by performing uthak-baithak (sit-ups while holding their ears) before the idol of Shriji. They prayed to Lord Ganesha, asking for pardon for any errors that might have occurred during the ten days of worship.
