This is not a full playthrough but a boss fight analysis (figuring out consistent strategies, sharing tips on how to survive each fight, and rating how fair or unfair each boss felt when using this specific attack).
I decided to play this as a compilation of all bosses, with a high level character and no healing items, switching between ng and ng+ depending on how tough each boss is... as an attempt to "arcade-ify" the experience and remove the RPG problem of under-/over-leveling. I also hate brute-forcing bosses so I avoid spamming buffs and heavy armor (feels like godmode with extra steps). I think that's a balanced foundation, and I simply like playing this way :D
At the end of every boss fight I included a fairness review, rating how reasonable the fight felt while using only the Crystal Ring Shield special attack.
About the weapon itself:
The Crystal Ring Shield is a unique shield crafted from the soul of the Moonlight Butterfly. Its special heavy attack fires a crystal ring projectile with fixed damage, that does not benefit from any spell buffs, but does work with the Red Tearstone Ring.
The animation is slightly slower than a longbow or heavy soul arrow, and the range is shorter than soul arrows, though damage does not drop off with distance. The attack consumes 4 durability per use, giving you 30 shots from a full shield before it breaks... but Repair Powder can be used mid-combat to restore it :)
If you are close enough to a boss, the attack deals bonus damage by hitting simultaneously with both the projectile and the shield spike, which I call "melee fire", but please don't feel like I invented it, as I am sure many people in the community know this already :d
Overall this weapon is not really a challenge in the traditional sense, but it looks incredibly cool and I wanted to see how it holds up :3
And I am very sad about my sick analog stick :/
