Demonstrating the classic Buchla Model 259 complex oscillator and its modern counterpart Model 261e with some technojazz sequences. The 259 is a replica of the '70s module built with period-correct components according to Don Buchla's schematics and handwritten notes. The 261e is a modern 200e oscillator still in production today. In this video, I switch back and forth between the 259 and 261e to compare the sounds of their wavefolders, accessing similar settings of Timbre, Symmetry, and High Order Harmonics. The oscillators are playing the same sequences throughout, and Timbre is modulated by the same clocked CV source with similar intensity. The other Buchla modules used are a 284 Quad Envelope Generator and 292C Quad Lopass Gate. There is some Eventide reverb-delay at the end of the signal path, I actually forgot I had it on and was just vibing with the oscillators. Timestamps: 0:00: 259 with symmetry set to odd ("cold" side) 1:05: 261e with symmetry set to odd 1:52: 259 with symmetry set to even ("warm" side), and adding High Order Harmonics 2:44: 261e with symmetry set to even, and adding High Order Harmonics 3:29: 259 in mix with other voices, modulating all wavefolder parameters 4:41: 261e in mix with other voices, modulating all wavefolder parameters.
