Prohibido quedarse
-Volca Keys
-Volca FM2
-Volca Drum
-NTS-1
The SW12 is easily my favorite NTS-1 custom oscillator. Its detuning ability is insane, it can bring a lot of chaos. Here I added a tight delay to achieve this sixteenth note effect, but there are eighth notes.
I think this is the only time I used the Keys for a bass. I found the combination of detuning and portamento can create a very huge effect.
I'm doing this weird mute/unmute parts at the beginning because the Drum doesn't offer an easiest way to do it. I wanted to play the kick in real time while the kick sequence wasn't playing yet, but the main sequence was. So, real-time playing isn't possible while the part is muted (it makes totally sense), but there isn't a hold mute function, to just only have to press the part you want to mute/unmute, so this was my way to achieve this, obviously with a lot of practice. Beside this, the waveguide: its best feature.
With the FM2 I'm doing something similar to the Drum at the intro, but since I only have one voice, I can play/stop the sequence to play only the steps I want to play.
The FM can sound very aggresive with high velocities and modulation, but here I find more interesting what happens with low/mid decay values on the modulators, it can add a great textures, and if you turn up and down these values plus some delay, it just sounds really cool.

The volcas are connected to a mixer (Mackie Mix12Fx) and recordered in one stereo track on the Tascam DR-40x. All effects are from the NTS-1.
