Through vivid imagery — delusion as a hill, desire and anger as looming mountains, greed as a thief along the road — Kabir paints the spiritual journey as a difficult crossing (yamghat) that cannot be navigated alone. The refrain is a simple, urgent question: without the guidance of a true Guru, who shows the way?
