Satisfied- Arr. Seth Custer This hymn is a testimony to the satisfaction that is found in Christ alone. Truly, nothing can satisfy the soul’s deepest longing besides our Savior Himself. This arrangement portrays this beautiful message so well, and I trust that your heart will be encouraged through both the music and the lyrics. Verse 1: All my lifelong, I had panted, For a drink from some clear spring, That I hoped would quench the burning Of the thirst I felt within. Refrain: Hallelujah! I have found Him Whom my soul so long has craved! Jesus satisfies my longings, Through His blood I now am saved. Verse 2: Feeding on the husks around me, Till my strength was almost gone, Longed my soul for something better, Only still to hunger on. Verse 3: Poor I was, and sought for riches, Something that would satisfy, But the dust I gathered round me Only mocked my soul’s sad cry. Violin Sonata in D Major, K. 306- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart II. Andante cantabile Mozart composed this sonata during his family’s grand musical tour of Europe. This composition shows more musical maturity than his earlier works, although he certainly displayed remarkable genius from a young age. As you listen, enjoy the beautiful, operatic lines and the equal partnership between the violin and piano. Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 19- Sergei Prokofiev I. Andantino This concerto was composed in 1917 and premiered in 1923, with Igor Stravinsky as the conductor. Surprisingly, the audience felt that this concerto was “too romantic” for their taste. While the opening is very lyrical and romantic, the rest of the movement contains the complicated and unpredictable harmonies that are characteristic of 20th Century music. This movement is beautiful, even though it is not exactly “pretty.” As you listen, observe the contrasts between each section and enjoy the unpredictability that makes Prokofiev so much fun to listen to! THANK YOU First, thank you to my parents for their immense investment in my life. I am thankful to the Lord for your willingness to pay for music lessons, instruments, and for your constant support. And of course, I must thank my siblings for providing me with many distractions when I practice at home. Few things are more distracting than having Nerf gun bullets or basketballs whizzing by your head while you play. It really is great practice for ignoring distractions. ;) Second, thank you to all my friends, who have been such a blessing and encouragement to me throughout my life. There are too many to list, but I thank the Lord for each one of you. Thank you, Zane, for taking the time to accompany me in this recital. I appreciate your excellent musicianship and your willingness to invest many hours of practice into this recital. Thank you, Mr. Sant’Ana, for your excellent teaching over the past year and a half. I am so thankful that the Lord allowed you to come teach here at Maranatha, and this recital certainly would not have been possible if not for your willing investment in my musicianship. Finally, I praise the Lord for His goodness. I am so thankful for the gift of music, and I am tremendously honored to be able to take part in that gift. I am most thankful that He has redeemed me to become one of His own. May this recital bring honor and glory only to Him.
